I'm not sure why A Blue Bear was written in first person, as it isn't my favourite way of writing, but I had struggled for quite a while with earlier versions of this story coming from both Jack and Lana's point of view.  About ready to throw it all in the bin, I bought a new writing pad and pen (always certain to get me kick-started), began writing it in first person from Lana's point of view, and it clicked!

I'm not even sure why I clicked with Lana's character, as she was much younger than I originally intended her to be, and I really had no idea how it would be to find myself alone, heavily pregnant and running away from an abusive relationship.  However, the story just flowed into life and was the first book I ever completed.  It stayed in the bottom of a cupboard for many years, until I dragged it out one day and brought it into present time.

Lana meets Jack, a bad-tempered, irritable lorry driver who is floundering in his own set of issues, and from there begins a tentative relationship as she attempts to help him work through his issues.  Gradually things begin to fall into place and she finds herself settling into a new way of life and making new friends, but Jack's ghosts from the past are bothering him, and the small blue bear he keeps on the dashboard of his lorry signifies his love for another woman.  Then their are the mysteries surrounding him.  Letters threatening to kill him if he doesn't leave Cornwall, the murder that was committed years ago, the memories of an aunt that saved him from a bitter father.  They are the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle Jack must complete to learn the truth about his life.

It is my plan to write a sequel to A Blue Bear, and explore Lana's past when it invades her new life.  Watch this space!
